Last night while setting up the booth for the Sarpy County Republicans at the County Fair I had an opportunity to meet the incumbent, Senator Kopplin.
I have to say it was a pleasant conversation and we seemed to have, at the very least, established the beginnings of a "Positive" dialog. Today there seems to be more of a focus on tearing down a person rather than just saying what you are about. I think the past dozen years or so we have seen a remarkable turn for the worse in basic civility. I feel our forefathers would look at how today’s political activities are conducted and wonder what and where it went wrong. It isn’t a matter of not being able to have differences of opinion or enthusiastically defending ones position, but rather the manner in which one goes about their business.
I do not believe I am defined by tearing down my opponent. Senator Kopplin seemed to me to be a good and decent man. As I said earlier I found it easy to talk to him and the conversation was enjoyable. There were no harsh words about or to either of us or the other candidate in the race. I look forward to the next time I meet Senator Kopplin and have an opportunity to discuss our views on the issues facing the 3rd district and Nebraska.

This past weekend was full of events from Gretna to Bellevue. I was able to take in two great firework shows, eat BBQ for most meals, participate in the Gretna Parade, and more importantly meet many wonderful people in district 3. I look forward to meeting and speaking with as many of you as I can as the the campaign rolls on to the General Election November 4th.

My Platform
As your representative in the State Legislature I will bring my proven work ethic, and common sense to Lincoln. I am willing to listen, and to work to understand the issues at hand.
I believe the strength of our state is in its people. I believe that good government should guarantee to its individuals equality before the law
I believe that government should promote the health, welfare, and safety of the individual and that government’s proper function is to do only those things which individuals cannot do for themselves.
My parents, teachers, and coaches instilled the desire to work hard and take pride in a job well done. 20 years service in the United States Air Force further solidified the importance of dedication and devotion to something larger than myself.
I am a conservative and believe in the importance of individual rights and of limited government.
With these principles, I believe I am the candidate for people who desire a positive and responsive government at the state level.

You can run an effective campaign without engaging in ad hominem attacks. To the objective observer, the first to do so, has probably lost the argument anyway. Luckily you're running on a Conservative platform, which is naturally conducive to sound logic.
