This past weekend was full of events from Gretna to Bellevue. I was able to take in two great firework shows, eat BBQ for most meals, participate in the Gretna Parade, and more importantly meet many wonderful people in district 3. I look forward to meeting and speaking with as many of you as I can as the the campaign rolls on to the General Election November 4th.

My Platform
As your representative in the State Legislature I will bring my proven work ethic, and common sense to Lincoln. I am willing to listen, and to work to understand the issues at hand.
I believe the strength of our state is in its people. I believe that good government should guarantee to its individuals equality before the law
I believe that government should promote the health, welfare, and safety of the individual and that government’s proper function is to do only those things which individuals cannot do for themselves.
My parents, teachers, and coaches instilled the desire to work hard and take pride in a job well done. 20 years service in the United States Air Force further solidified the importance of dedication and devotion to something larger than myself.
I am a conservative and believe in the importance of individual rights and of limited government.
With these principles, I believe I am the candidate for people who desire a positive and responsive government at the state level.

So what is your position on guns.
I support the 2nd Amendment of the United States Constitution and the Nebraska State Constitution and urge the vigorous enforcement of all current gun laws by all levels of government.
Hello Scott,
What are the current issues affecting district 3?
Why are you qualified to represent me and my family?
Sarpy county continues to grow along with its infrastructure, can our current taxes handle this growth?
John A.
John,
I appreciate the fact you went straight to the heart of the matter and I will try to answer you in the same manner.
1. What are the current issues affecting district 3?
1. Taxes, Taxes, Taxes
2. Recently passed legislation creating the Learning Community
2. Why are you qualified to represent me and my family?
First off I want to say that the opportunity to represent the people of District 3 is a Privilege and an Honor in and of it self.
In asking myself this same question I decided I needed to go out and talk with the people in the district. To accomplish this I have been out walking the district. In speaking with people along the way I find a majority of those who I have spoken with share many of the same values and beliefs as I do. Of course not everybody holds the same opinion about all the issues, but enough so that I feel confident I will represent them fairly. What I have said to people along the way is not every negotiation goes all one person's way. Some times you get the whole loaf of bread and other times you get half a loaf.
Specifically I feel the following statements further substantiate why I feel I can represent you and your family.
My wife and I have raised our children here side by side with you. I have worked at many school functions from Elementary fairs to High School sporting events with the common goal of supporting our children and assisting the school in brightening their day. I have sat on the sidelines cheering the student athletes, and have walked the same sidelines when coaching little league football.
I had the honor of serving in the military along side the men and women in our Armed Forces and understand the challenges they face. I have been on both sides of a Deployment, I have deployed and have also watched as my wife deployed.
John I feel my opening and running a small business gave me first hand experience in the challenges faced by small business owners.
A large part of what is expected from a legislator is stewardship of tax monies. I believe it is important for a legislator to have experience in working with tax dollars. I have over 10 years experience working with, and being responsible for using Tax dollars. I have managed large budgets for projects delivered on time and on budget. The world of government funding is not the same as our personal check books, even though there are those seem to operate that way.
Finally a representative needs to be a person of conviction. I have never been, nor will I ever be a person who is afraid to stand up for what I believe. I am not the type of person who panders for support and then disappears when the smoke clears the air. For all of you who have met me, been in the Ice Cream Shop, worked with me at Offutt, or on various committees either at church or in the community, you know this to be the case. This doesn’t mean I won’t listen to a new concept but it does mean I won’t change my position because there is a poll saying this or that.
As your representative I will be out and talking with you on the issues and listening to your thoughts and ideas. As your Senator I will never forget the relationship where I work for you!
Never again should legislation be passed like LB1049 and LB641, where the people speak out against it and the Senator afterwards say’s “I was for most of what was in the bill.”
3. Sarpy county continues to grow along with its infrastructure, can our current taxes handle this growth?
John in speaking with a former County Commissioner I was told to remember to keep things in their proper arenas and to not step on the toes of those who are responsible. However, in order to not “dodge” the question I will let you know how my position on taxes and growth at the state level. To be honest I believe the state takes in enough taxes to handle the requirements for infrastructure needs, some would even say too much! Of all the things I have learned over the years is as good of a plan as there can be the real trick to first make sure proper planning and explanation were done up front. Once a plan has been signed up to, STICK TO IT. More efforts are over-budget because of either poor planning or changes in requirements along the way What I will do is evaluate legislation not only for the quality of the planning and the ideas expressed, but also for the COST to you the tax-payer!
John I hope this answers your questions.
Scott
